Little Big Guy

If there was any worry left about my little guy gaining weight, it has certainly passed now.  On Friday we took him to be weighed again, and he gained 2 1/2 pounds in just 2 weeks!  He's up to 11.7 pounds.  At 6 weeks old, that's a pretty big guy.  85th percentile, actually.

When I wake up each morning, I swear it seems like he has grown so much, he looks like a different baby.  I am so grateful that he is gaining weight and growing so well!  Those very early days of worrying are so difficult.

This weight gain also means that my little big guy spends the majority of his days and nights on feeding frenzies.  Not the typical every-3-hour-newborn-eating schedule.  No, he's on an every hour to 2 hour feeding schedule.  It's rough.

I can't believe that it has been 6 weeks since my little guy was born!  While I was still pregnant with him I thought back to my maternity leave with M.  I remember really stressing over her health, weight gain, finding a babysitter, going back to work, and so many other things.  I told myself that this time would be different...I would make a conscious effort not to stress like I did last time.   All in all, I would say that I have been much better.  BUT, the worry over weight gain is now being transferred to finding a sitter.  UUUUUUUGH!

Finding a sitter/nanny/caregiver for a newborn is NOT fun.  There's the worry over finding just the right person (someone caring, loving, responsible - someone I can TRUST with my little love).  Worry over the expense, and the worry that I will actually make it to work on time - eek!  Oh, how I long to be the resident of a European country where maternity leave is more than 12 weeks (unpaid to boot).  Why do we Americans have to push everything to such limits??  It can't possibly be worth it.

Speaking of pushing things to the limit/overdoing everything; we are waist deep in projects here.  The new house is just about completely "demo'd" (demolition complete - I'll post on that next) and we are using serious elbow grease to get our old house ready to put up for sale next Monday.  Here's what I'm working on today:

Making our front porch pretty.  I picked up these lovely flowers last night (always one of my favorite things to do - it reminds me that summer is nearly here!).  I'll be planting the pots today.

I'll be weeding this flower bed and planting these bright yellow flowers.  M picked them out for me.  I love that!

We (mainly my mom) will also finish staining our storage shed.  Have I told you lately what  life-saver my mom is?!  I can not imagine what this time in our lives would be like without her.  She is truly the best.

So, speaking of stressing over going back to work, no lie, I just got a call from one of my coworkers asking for help with a project.  Going back is just around the corner.  Siiiiiiiiigh.

2 Weeks Already!

Just 2 weeks and 12 hours ago, this was what I saw when I looked down:

Then, 12 hours later, this is what I got to see:

Our sweet and handsome little boy was born on April 1st!
He weighed in at 9 pounds 1 ounce and was 22 inches long.  Quite the big little guy!

It was a good thing that he was born 9 days early.  A few weeks before he was born, my OB started to be concerned by his size.  She was thinking he would be big (as did I).  So, I had an ultrasound done to see how big he was, so that we could decide if I should be induced.  The ultrasound doctor told us that the baby was only in the 56th percentile....So very wrong!!  In fact, the little guy's height is in the 99th percentile!

While modern technology didn't help the ultrasound doctor any, I have to say "Thank goodness for modern medicine!"  As you have probably already figured out by now, if something "rare" is going to happen, it typically happens to me/us.  In this circumstance, my delivery was complicated when my little one had Shoulder Dystocia.  This is basically where after the baby's head is delivered, the shoulders aren't able to pass through.  Yep.  Life threatening emergency that happens in about 1% of deliveries.  Thank the Lord, the doctor took quick action and was able to maneuver the baby in such a way that he was able to be delivered.  I won't go into any gruesome details, but I will say that it was very scary and very painful.  We are just SO very grateful that our little guy made it through okay and didn't have any injuries or nerve damage!  We were so blessed.

I think this picture may be just a little bit skewed by the angle it was taken, but you can see what a good size he was:

We are so excited to have him here.  He has the sweetest little personality.  The past 2 weeks have been a little bit foggy.  But, it has been so nice to just love on him.

Proud Sister:

I really can't believe that it has already been 2 weeks.  I keep telling myself to "just enjoy this time....savor it....cherish it."  I know that this newborn stage will be gone in a flash.  Good heck, I can't believe that M turned 4 years old this week!  While I was nursing my little guy in the middle of the night, the thought of how quickly I know their childhood will go for me, brought tears to my eyes.  My prayer is that I will be the best mother possible for both of my little ones and that they will simply be happy.  When I look at the two of them together, my heart is filled with joy and pride.  I am so blessed.  So fortunate.

The Muppets AND.......

A few weeks ago M and I were watching TV and a commercial came on for the new Muppets movie.  She was instantly mesmerised.  Since she is only 3, she has never seen the Muppets.  When they came onto the screen she jumped up, ran over to the TV and said, "Mamma!  What is that?!  Who are they?!!"  I had to rewind the commercial several times for her.....I also had to explain that it was a movie and that we would have to wait for Thanksgiving to see it.

Well, my little M has a memory like no other.  I'm not kidding ya.  She remembers EVERYTHING.  She remembered that the Muppets were coming out at Thanksgiving and reminded me that I said we would go.  Just after we had Thanksgiving dinner she brought it up again.  I told her that she would have to go to bed early if we were going to go.....not 30 minutes later she was saying she wanted to go to bed (that was a first!).  She was down EARLY just so we could go.

Needless to say we drove an hour to see the first Muppets showing yesterday.  We're still at my parents and that was the closest theater.  She actually chose to see the Muppets before going to see Santa!  She LOVED it.  She said that "Miss Piggy and the frog" are her favorite.

As much as I thought it was a cute movie and glad she was so happy, I was a little bummed myself.  Going to the first showing also meant that we missed out on all of the Black Friday Early Bird Specials.  CRAP!  I told the hubby that I need to watch what I say next year, because I'm not missing out on the deals again!

**************************************************
Since we left for my parents last Wednesday, I haven't had a chance to post some other exciting news, yet.  We had our 20 week ultrasound last Tuesday........M is going to have a baby BROTHER!  I was truly shocked.  I thought for sure I was having another girl.  I guess I can throw "Mother's Intuition" out the window!

So, I am now off to sort through 5 bins of baby girl clothes and "stuff".  We are going to sell them since we won't be needing them anymore.  I don't know if it's just the hormones, but I have to say that it is making me very sad.  I've already seen several outfits that I want to hold on to - just because it reminds of something M was doing when she wore it.  It's going to be a tough task!
